Submission filed with Minister

Gartner & Associates has filed our submission with the Minister responsible for trapping laws in Ontario, Hon. Kathryn McGarry.

The document highlights the dangers to the public from the outdated laws in effect and the need for immediate changes. We have asked for:

  1. Mandatory posting of warning signs at the beginning of designated public trails
  2. No traps within 150 meters of a designated public trail
  3. Identification tags on traps

Without these simple and reasonable changes, lethal incidents will only become more frequent. Manitoba enacted similar laws recently.

“The public is not aware that they need to consider the dangers of baited traps when venturing out in nature.”

We look forward to the Ministry’s response.
